Visit NEHGS

New England Historic Genealogical SocietyWhen visiting Boston, we invite you to stop by the NEHGS research library located at 99-101 Newbury Street in the heart of the city's beautiful Back Bay neighborhood. Our eight-story library and archive is one of the nation's leading research centers for genealogists and family historians of every skill level. You can explore our vast collection of books, manuscripts, microfilms, records, documents, photographs, and electronic resources, as well as experience first-hand the incredible expertise of our staff of professional genealogists. Marie Daly, David Dearborn, Rhonda McClure, Josh Taylor, and Christopher Child are just a few of the genealogical experts eagerly waiting to help you with any question you may have about your family research.

Every month NEHGS hosts a free "New Visitor Welcome" tour that gives an overview of the tremendous wealth of resources available on-site and on-line. These tours are free and open to anyone, and do not require a reservation.

Boston is a beautiful city steeped in history, culture, and tradition. During your visit you may also wish to see the site of the Boston Tea Party or the Boston Massacre. The Boston Public Library, the nation's oldest public library, is just a short walk from NEHGS. You can get a birds-eye view of the city from high atop the Prudential Center's Skywalk Observatory or take a stroll through Boston Common, the nation’s first public park. Stand on the decks of the USS Constitution, the oldest commissioned naval ship in the world. Visit Faneuil Hall or the many boutiques and restaurants along Newbury Street.
