Navigating through the NEHGS website

INCREASING TEXT SIZE OF ARTICLES
This may not be directly related to navigating the site but if you are having difficulty reading any articles there is a text size option at the top of the page. You can increase or decrease text size by clicking the Text size larger and Text size smaller at the top of the screen.

How to return to the NEHGS homepage
You can return to the homepage from any location on the website by clicking on the New England Historic Genealogical Society logo found in the top left hand corner of every page. An example of the clickable logo can be found at the top of this page.

Learning to use the top navigation
The top navigation is divided into five main sections:

If you rollover any section with your mouse you will get a drop down menu like the example below. You can click on any of the links below the top navigation. So in this example below DATABASES & RESEARCH you
can click on Databases, Getting Started, Articles, Town Guides, Research Services, External Resources, Online Genealogist, and Forum.

Databases & Research
Under Databases & Research you will find the following categories:

You can get to any of these categories by using the top navigation shown above or by using the left-hand navigation available in each individual section. Here is an example of how the left hand navigation looks in Databases & Research:

LEFT SIDE NAVIGATION
Each main section of the website has navigation on the left hand side of the page. This allows for easier navigation of the site and the ability to add subnavigation to each section. In the example below you will see an example of left hand navigation with subnavigation below it.

The example above show the side navigation in the Our Library section of the site with subnavigation under Online Exhibits. This makes it easier to navigate to the various sections of our site. At the same time you can still use the top navigation
to link to other section of the website.

Right Side Callouts
In the next example, still under the Our Library > Online Exhibits section of the website you will notice that there are some related links and a search box to search the library. Many of the pages throughout the site will have right hand callouts with information directly related to the content on the page. In this particular example you can search our library catalog from within the website. The related links will bring you to links associated with the Manuscripts section of the website. Some pages may have the option to search the database, informational callouts, tours and programs, related articles/databases or new publications.
