Guides

Manuscript repositories create guides to promote and facilitate the use of their collections.

A guide may highlight documents in a repository’s holdings that relate to a person, place, theme, time period, or historical event of particular interest to historians, educators/students, general public, etc. Guides may also focus on a particular kind of document such as diaries, broadsides, or daguerreotypes. Guides include the proper citations for the various documents listed for prompt retrieval.

Finding Aids to Manuscript Collections
Inventories exist for many of our larger collections. These finding aids provide a detailed description of the collection's contents. The catalog record will note if there is an inventory for that collection. Although our finding aidsare currently only available at our library, staff is working on preparing ourfinding aids for encoding withEncoded Archival Description (EAD) so these may be made available on our web site.
